Evidence of the alleged 3960X was posted by Twitter user APISAK (@TUM_APISAK), who first spotted within the Ashes of the Singularity (AOTS) benchmark database. To be precise, the post is merely a cutout of the full AOTS benchmark, but it does highlight that the 3960X will reportedly feature 24-cores, 48-threads. Of course, the CPU will be based on AMD’s current 7nm Zen2 architecture. By comparison, AMD’s 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper 2970X had the same core count as this supposed 3960X. If this is to be taken seriously, then it’s possible we could be looking at an increase in the total core count across the board for all the other unannounced 3rd generation Ryzen Threadripper CPUs.

Further, there’s no concrete evidence to suggest that this even is the real deal, so it’s best to take it with a large pinch of salt. There’s also no information about pricing, but given the nature of HEDT CPUs, it’s a given that these components aren’t going to come cheap. The good news is that we won’t have to wait too long to find out; AMD’s grand launch for its 3rd generation Ryzen Threadripper CPUs kicks off in November, which is less than a month away.
On top of that, AMD’s HEDT processors will be launching alongside its top-of-the-line, high-end consumer CPU, the 16-cores, 32-threads Ryzen 9 3950X. All in all, it’s safe to say that November is going to be an exciting month for AMD. (Source: Twitter via Hot Hardware)
