As part of the trial, Celcom ran two different speed tests, using C-band and mmWave. The former is run using Oppo’s Reno 5G phone, while the latter was carried out on laptop. The former managed to achieve speeds of over 1.2Gbps, while the latter hit speeds of 6Gbps. These speeds allow for other 5G applications as well, such as surveillance. This was demonstrated using a large screen attached to a truck, showing camera transmissions of several locations.

Throughout this six-month trial period, Celcom also plans to cover areas like Seksyen 14, Menara MBPJ, the Crystal Crown Hotel and the Taman Jaya LRT station. In total, all the 5G macro sites will cover an area of about 1.22km2. This brings the 5G test coverage to a population of  over 4600 people, covering about 450 homes, as well as 130 shop lots, offices, shopping areas and outdoor spaces.

Celcom did not mention what its plans are after the conclusion of the six-month field trial, though. But as it is, residents of the covered areas would be able to benefit from the telcos trial coverage, provided they have devices capable of making use of it.
