But all was not lost, as Liverpool-born mechanic Stephen Wynne later refounded the company in 1995. Ever since its re-establishment in Texas, the new DeLorean Motor Company has been offering DMC-12 owners with services such as restoration and the sale of NOS (New old stock), OEM (Original equipment manufacturer), aftermarket and replacement parts.

— DeLorean Motor Company (@deloreanmotorco) April 4, 2022 Now, 41 years after the initial launch of the DeLorean DMC-12, the automaker has announced that it will unveil the prototype of the car’s potential successor later this year. As hinted in its tweet, the upcoming model will be an electric vehicle (EV) and is slated to be fully revealed at the Monterey Car Week event on 18 August 2022. According to its press release, the upcoming EV is a product from the partnership between DeLorean Motor Company and Italdesign, an Italian firm founded by famed designer Giorgetto Giugiaro who also designed the original DMC-12. Unfortunately, the teaser only provided a three-quarter shot of the vehicle’s rear profile, which does showcase a bit of its sleek and modern design. Like its predecessor, the EV is shown to sport a silver and black colour scheme, while a separate teaser on the company’s official website reveals that it will also come with gull-wing doors. August is still a way off, so it will be a while until we can actually see the DeLorean EV concept in full. Nonetheless, this unexpected announcement will definitely have DMC fans and car enthusiasts alike stoked for the upcoming reveal. Fingers crossed that the company will provide a couple more teasers along the way. (Source: DeLorean Motor Company [press release / Twitter]
