While that may sound like a bad thing but it is actually very much the opposite, according to the game’s developer. Instead of working on its sequel which was announced last month, InnerSloth revealed that it will focus on improving and providing support to the original game. For those unfamiliar, Among Us was originally released in 2018 and saw no mainstream attention only until recently. This is due to the game often featured by YouTubers and live streamers on Twitch on their respective channels.

“The main reason we [were] shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content,” stated InnerSloth in their recent Itch.io blog post. “However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level.”

Despite the sequel’s cancellation, the developer said that all content and features planned for the second game will be implemented to the original instead. InnerSloth noted that improvements such as server issue fixes, colourblind support, a new friends system, and a whole new level is in the works. However, the expected release date for this overhaul was not specified.

Among Us is available on PC via Steam at RM12.50, and is also available on iOS and Android for free. The mobile version includes advertisements, which can be removed by purchasing the game at RM7.99. (Source: Inner Sloth [Itch.io blog])
