A number of Control Digital Deluxe Edition owners on PS4 claimed to have been granted a free upgrade to the Ultimate Edition. Though this was only for a very small window, as the free upgrade was revoked soon after.
The reason for not being able to sell that entitlement separately as a paid-for upgrade to existing owners is getting thinner. pic.twitter.com/Qh5ZIpx8AJ — Paul Rustchynsky (@Rushy33) September 10, 2020 This naturally made little sense. After all, the Ultimate Edition of Control and the Digital Deluxe Edition are essentially identical. 505 Games’ explanation failed to shed any real light on why only one of them gets the free next-gen upgrade. And with this accidental, even if short-lived, upgrade that some users got, it’s evident that 505 was being dishonest. Both 505 Games and developer Remedy Entertainment has remained silent since. One possible, if unlikely, explanation to this is that, for some reason, the free upgrade is possible on PlayStation, but not Xbox, so the publisher decided that it’s impossible for both platforms in an attempt to be fair.
