Typical of any teaser, the company did not explain on which imaging aspect is contributed by the high-resolution camera manufacturer. It could mean that the Magic 3 may come with IMAX-developed enhancements to its camera app, or feature sensors and/or optics that have been fine tuned according to the manufacturer’s standards. As for the overall camera array, the teaser image revealed that the one featured on the Magic 3 will be large and circular. It is also shown to resemble a film reel, which is likely a nod to Honor’s new partnership with IMAX. While most of the array’s bottom half isn’t visible, it is expected that the new smartphone will come with five cameras in total. Recent rumours suggest that the new Honor smartphone will come with a 100MP camera, along with several other unspecified sensors.
This collaboration does come as a surprise, yet fits appropriately with the trend of smartphone makers reaching out to well-established camera manufacturers to co-develop their device’s imaging systems. With the more recent ones being OnePlus and Hasselblad, as well as the unexpected partnership between Sharp and Leica. There’s also rumours that next year’s Samsung Galaxy S22 may feature camera technology that is co-engineered by Japanese camera brand Olympus, although the jury is out whether this information is actually true or not. The Honor Magic 3 will be launched in China this Thursday on 12 August 2021 although one can still catch the launch event live through Honor Malaysia’s YouTube channel. We’ll be certain to find out more details regarding the phone such as its specs, potential variations, price and availability by then. (Source: Weibo via GSMArena)
