Being aware of this, Instagram has now introduced an authenticity measures feature to help people receive authentic contents from verified account handlers within their platform. To summarise should Instagram find any inauthentic behaviour circulating online, users will be asked to confirm their identity, allowing the company access to identify users who are up to no good.
The identification process will begin when Instagram analyses signals to decide if the account handler will have to go through a confirmation process. However, do note that not all accounts will be a part of this process, as Instagram is only aiming to keep this within a small number of users. Only users who have a large following from different countries as compared to their own and those who are seen as being part of potential coordinated inauthentic behaviour will be prompted to follow this process. Upon completion, users will then be able to use their accounts as per usual. However, if they fail to comply, these users may suffer from reduced distribution of content or having their accounts permanently disabled. (Source: Instagram Blog)
