First discovered by XDA, the new URL sharing feature can be enabled by any app that provides a web UI. When an app (such as Chrome) is identified to be featuring an active web page on the Recent Apps overview, the system will automatically place a link icon above its app card. Tapping this link will copy the web page’s URL into the system’s clipboard, which you can later share with others. Usually, the most common thing to do after this is to open up a messenger app of your choice in order to share the copied link. But with this new update, Google has decided to make this even easier for you. After tapping the link icon, the Recent Apps overview will then bring up contact suggestions at the bottom of the screen for you to immediately share the URL with. Judging by the screenshot provided by XDA, the list of contacts are likely to be those who you are currently having a conversation with or had spoken to prior to this. Hopefully in the finalised or a future version of the feature, we’ll be able to easily share YouTube video links via the Recent Apps window as well. This new feature may not be all that groundbreaking, but it is a much appreciated quality-of-life addition for Android users nonetheless. However, unless you’re an Android 12 beta tester, the Recent Apps overview’s URL sharing function is still months away from being publicly available.
