With a thickness of just 11.3mm, the 1.2kg laptop continues to feature an all-aluminium unibody that is a long-time signature of the MacBook family. The new model also retains the MacBook Air’s fanless trait and Apple somehow managed to obtain a 20% reduction in terms of volume from it as well. [Image: Apple.]The company has also implemented a slightly brighter and larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display into the M2-based MacBook Air. The new display generally has thinner bezels on all four of its sides although some may feel a little bit uneasy seeing the notch on the centre top part of the screen which houses the laptop’s new 1080p FaceTime HD camera. If you can recall, this is not the first time that Apple has implemented a notch on MacBook’s display as it was also there on last year’s MacBook Pro 14 and 16. Nevertheless, Apple pointed out that the new camera is definitely an upgrade over the M1-based MacBook Air which was equipped with a 720p Facetime HD camera. [Image: Apple.][Image: Apple.]Thanks to the new M2 processor, the 2022 MacBook Air also has a noticeable performance advantage over its predecessor. Apple claimed that the new model is up to 38% faster than the M1-based MacBook Air for video editing as well as 20% more performance for image filters and effects. When compared to the Intel-based MacBook Air, the M2 model totally left them behind according to Apple’s claims. For video editing, the 2022 MacBook Air is apparently 15x faster than the older Intel variant while the new model is 5x faster for implementing image filters and effects. As opposed to its M1-based counterpart, the new M2-powered model comes with fast charging capability which allows the laptop to obtain 50% of its capacity with 30 minutes of charging time. However, this feature requires the 67W USB-C power adapter that is not included with the laptop and currently costs RM239 on Apple Malaysia’s online store. This is unless you opt for the variant with 10-core GPU and has a 512GB solid state drive or larger in which you can choose to have that 67W adapter or the 35W dual USB-C power adapter. [Image: Apple.]Apple has also implemented a MagSafe power connector on the new M2-based MacBook Air which means users can have the two USB-C Thunderbolt ports to themselves. The company has also pointed out that the 3.5mm headphone jack on the laptop can support high-impedance headphones while it has also been equipped with a three-mic array alongside a four-speaker sound system that supports Dolby Atmos. In Malaysia, the base model with 8-core GPU, 8GB memory, and 256GB SSD costs RM5,499 but those who want to have fully-loaded specs can go for the 10-core GPU option with 24GB memory and 2TB SSD for RM10,699. Available in Midnight, Starlight, Space Grey, and Silver, the release date for the new 2022 MacBook Pro with M2 in Malaysia has not yet been revealed by Apple though.
