Kotaku reports that, prior to the unveiling of Project Scarlett, Microsoft had planned to make two versions of the next-gen Xbox. One was known as Anaconda, which is largely what we know today as Project Scarlett. Another was Lockhart, which was to be a more affordable, digital only version of Scarlett.
With Microsoft announcing only one version of Project Scarlett during E3, it was thought that Lockhart was dropped. But sources to Kotaku say that Lockhart is in fact still being worked on. One game developer also compared it to the PS4 Pro in terms of raw graphical power, with other modern trimmings like faster CPU clock speed and SSD storage. It looks like we’ll only know more about this digital-only version of Project Scarlett if Microsoft officially announces it. Here’s hoping it will have a significantly smaller price tag than the standard next-gen Xbox.
