However, the Sultan of Selangor has provided special permission on 13 April for JAIS to resume marriage solemnization ceremony in the state during MCO. Following that, JAIS has since published the actual procedure for video call solemnization ceremony on its Facebook page. The procedure seems quite straight forward although applicants must first call the JAIS officials listed on the page, so that they can directly clarified the procedure with the applicants. Just last weekend, the Department of Federal Territory Islamic Affairs (JAWI) has conducted the first ever video call marriage solemnization in the country. The ceremony was apparently completed in just 15 minutes, according to the Minister of Religious Affair, Senator Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri who also was present during the video call. However, for Federal Territories, this special permission for video call marriage solemnization is not for any couples though. This is because the procedure documents [pdf] from JAWI stated that such permission can only be obtained by those who already have prior approval for their solemnization ceremony but not able to go through it due to MCO restrictions.
