Glimpses of the feature were first spotted by Twitter user Jeff Higgins (@ItsJeffHiggins), and at first glance, the feature looks sleek. Each handpicked show is displayed under the tabs on display, and each tab bear labels and titles that clearly bear a more human element to it. According to TechCrunch, the new feature is definitely different from Netflix’s usual method of recommending shows to its audience. Typically, its relegates such tasks to its AI-driven datacentre, which in turn is able to sustain the service’s advance categorisation system. It’s so capable that it can even categorise hundreds of “niche” categories; show groups that do not fall under the usual genres, such as Action, Drama, and so on.
— Jeff Higgins (@ItsJeffHiggins) August 23, 2019 Netflix has already confirmed the existence of Collections. It says that one of its reasons it is looking into curating content by hand is because it’s looking for new ways to “connect with its fans”. As mentioned earlier, the feature is currently only available on iOS, and there’s no indication if and when the feature will become available on the Android platform or other versions of the Netflix app (e.g. Apple TV).
