The rumours first came to light when several leaksters – one of them being the prominent leakster kopite7kime (@kopite7kimi) – tweeted about the possibility that 400W for NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace (AD102) GPU may not cut the mustard. As for AMD’s Navi 31, one member on the Beyond3D forum, thinks that the RDNA3-based GPU may require more than 500W. For context, both NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3090 require 350W alone, to run. While AMD’s Radeon RX 6800XT and 6900XT have a 300W TDP requirement. That said, one user from Chiphell pointed out that Navi 31 has already been taped out and that it is heading towards a third-quarter 2022 release.
Like all rumours, it’s hard to say if this one holds any water, especially since both GPU makers have been laboriously working hard at trying to maximise graphics performance while keeping overall power consumption as low as scientifically possible per each model.
