Finally, Disney has just made it official. During the company’s annual D23 Expo (happening right now), it was announced that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be a series that will drop on the Disney+ streaming service, set to launch in the US on November 12. (There is still no word on when the streaming platform will arrive in Malaysia — though, we know for sure that it is indeed coming.) It was also confirmed that Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels is set to reprise his role as the titular character.
The series will follow Obi-Wan Kenobi eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, which saw Palpatine execute Order 66 and hunt down the Jedi. The series will roughly also be set around the same time as Solo: A Star Wars Story. And no, for those who are wondering, Obi-Wan didn’t just sit in a cave and become a hermit for years until the events of A New Hope. If you’ve followed the books and animated series, Obi-Wan actually goes on many challenging missions and at one point even faces off and permanently defeats the reborn Darth Maul. The Obi-Wan show joins other Star Wars projects on Disney+ such as The Mandalorian and the currently untitled Cassian Andor series. We still have no information as to when Obi-Wan will drop on the platform, but principal photography will begin next year.
