The HONOR 20‘s four cameras on its back do just that, with each unit doing its own distinctive duty. Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at each of them, breaking down what they do and what kind of results you can expect from them. 48MP Main Camera
The main camera on the HONOR 20 makes use of the 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor. It also features what HONOR calls 4-in-1 Light Fusion which gives the sensor effectively a pixel size of 1.6μm. It’s also supported by an AI in a variety of ways. This gives you AI image stabilisation (AIS) and an AI Ultra Clarity shooting mode.
As you’d imagine, having more pixels generally means you can have more detail in your image. This allows you to crop off parts of shots you don’t want, leaving you with a more focused image without compromise to detail.
With the AI Ultra Clarity mode, you can take this a step further. As the camera takes multiple 48MP shots, the AI works in the background to combine them all in a way that preserves as much detail as possible. This allows you to really crop the images down to a specific point, and still have it look like it was the shot you intended to take from the start.
16MP Super Wide Angle Camera
On the other hand, if you want to capture more of a scene, then the 16MP super wide-angle camera. As the name suggests, this one has a 117-degree field of view which lets you take in more in your shot without having to take some steps back.
If you’re worried about the fisheye distortion, then you’ll be glad to know that the HONOR 20 corrects this distortion for you. This gives you the standard, rectilinear images with your wide-angle shots.
2MP Depth Assist Camera
Portrait shots with bokeh effects are all the rage today. On a smartphone, the effect is best replicated when you have two cameras working together. They work kind of like our eyes, comparing two images and calculating depth from there. And that’s what the 2MP depth sensor camera on the HONOR 20 is for.
To be clear, this camera doesn’t actually take any pictures. All it does it help obtain depth information. The duty of actually taking the shots falls on the main camera, so you can have the same quality as you would with your other shots.
2MP Macro Camera
Macro photography is usually one of the most difficult things to do on a smartphone, unless you clip a mobile lens onto the main camera. But with the HONOR 20’s dedicated macro camera, you don’t have to. You can go as close as 4cm to your subject, and capture the details beyond what the naked eye can see.
