In his speech, PM Muhyiddin stated that the new RMCO will start from 10 June onwards and will last until 31 August 2020. Under the RMCO, the government will further ease the restrictions that it has imposed on the population to stop the spread of COVID-19. Among them is the ability to travel interstate once again which can take place starting from 10 June onwards. Of course, this doesn’t apply to areas that under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO). Hence, it is not surprising that PM Muhyiddin also mentioned that domestic tourism activities are being allowed as well. However, Malaysians are still not allowed to travel outside of the country for the time being as our borders will remain to be closed until further notice.
Meanwhile, the government is also relaxing the restrictions on many economic and social activities. As you might have heard from yesterday’s announcement by Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, barbers and hair salons have been allowed to operate once again. Additional, open markets, morning markets, night markets, bazaars, hawker centres, food courts, food trucks and food stalls have received the green light from the government. PM Muhyiddin has also mentioned museum visits, indoor busking, self-service laundrettes, commercial fishing pools, video productions, meetings, and workshops in his special address today. Religious congregation and schools will also be allowed to take place very soon with in-depth details will be announced very soon by relevant authorities. As for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration next month, it has also received approval from the government. That being said, activities that related to the celebration including the Qurban ritual need to follow the SOPs that will be provided by respective Islamic authorities.
Even though RMCO will tone down many restrictions that were placed during MCO and CMCO, there are still plenty of activities will remain prohibited. Contact sports such as football, rugby, boxing and hockey as well as sport competitions and events that involve mass gatherings are still not allowed. The restriction also still applies to pubs, night clubs, entertainment centres, reflexology centres, karaoke joint and theme parks. Same goes to kenduri, open houses and pretty much any social activities that could lead to a large number of people gathering at the same place.
PM Muhyiddin has also encouraged everyone to utilize the MySejahtera app to perform self-assessment health test, in addition to also help Ministy of Health perform contact tracing within the community. Even though we are entering the recovery phase, we would like to remind you that there is still no cure or vaccine for COVID-19. Hence, please continue to practice good personal hygiene as well as social distancing and do wear face masks when you are in public places. (Source: Prime Minister Office.)
