According to a report by Forbes, the company will only be launching a single Blu-Ray player sometime later this year. That player being the last one. The signs were there too; the last time the brand released a Blu-Ray player was back in 2017. One possible reason behind Samsung’s decision to terminate its production of 4K Blu-Ray players could be due to the changing trends in the way people deal with their media consumption.
On top of that, sales of Blu-Ray players are also affected by the sale of game consoles such as the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. While both consoles have a Blu-Ray player built-in, these consoles also have the option of simply downloading their favourite games into the on-board storage or stream videos directly from the pre-installed apps as well.
It’s uncertain how Samsung’s decision will affect the market outside of the US. However, it almost certainly seems that Malaysia won’t be affected by the decision, considering the amount of media consumption we do online. (Source: Forbes via Techspot, Hot Hardware)
