Though according to the official announcement, it won’t be as simple as signing into your Spotify account and listening to an audiobook. You will still need a Storytel account, and you’ll have to link that to your Spotify account. Only then will you be able to stream audiobooks via the music streaming platform. There is also no date as to when this will go live. The company says this will become possible later in 2021, but that’s about it.

But when it does go live, it does mean that Storytel subscribers will have one less app to worry about. For those who are only subscribed to Spotify though, it doesn’t look like you’ll be gaining any benefit as a result of this partnership. To be fair, Spotify already has a small library of audiobooks. The titles themselves are classics in the public domain. But according to SlashGear, their audiobook versions are exclusive to the platform. Hopefully the Storytel partnership would lead to something similar, without needing its subscribers to subscribe to another service for access. (Source: Spotify [1], [2] via SlashGear)
