To absolutely no one’s surprise, over half (62%) of respondents who have family agreed that children and elderly relatives need help with updating devices. With the skyrocketing number of data breaches and cyberattacks lately, you’d probably agree that updates are even more vital. But it can be hard to change hardened perceptions and habits. A significant 34% of surveyed adults find installing updates frustrating and annoying. And it looks like one person in any given household usually takes on the responsibility of updating devices in a home.
When asked, 77% of adults said they typically install updates on devices at home by themselves. Only 12% said household members assume responsibility for updating their own devices. 7% said their partner does the updating, while 4% left that task to their children. The survey was conducted online last April with 15,000 respondents. The countries sampled are the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the USA, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Romania, UAE, Turkey, South Africa, China, India, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, and Russia.
